I didn't mention it before because I thought that one had to have a high-speed connection in order to use the program. But I found out from this discussion board that you can use a dial-up modem with Google Earth. Now some people say that they don't mind if it takes some time to actually use Google Earth because of their slower dial-up connection and some have been just too frustrated to continue to use it with their dial-up modem. But the general advice is to try it and see.
What is Google Earth? Google Earth is a free downloaded program that lets you "see the earth" - for lack of a better explanation. You can view the globe, view various locations and see maps of areas all around the world including your own neighborhood.
There is also a message board where people can post, ask and answer questions.
Once you start getting good at using the program you can make your own maps to send to others that have Google Earth installed so that they can see YOUR map(s). It even gets to be more fun because people have been making much more complicated maps that include everything from layers to overlays.
